Domaine la Fourmone 2019 Le Poète

The vines of the Le Poète cuvée are located on the Cône de la Font des Papes, composed of clayey-sandy silts with small limestone fragments.  Grenache and Syrah vines average 30 years old.  Grapes remain on the skins for three weeks and are aged in concrete, then in bottle for at least 6 months prior to release.

Perfumed black cherry and raspberry fruit is shaded by darker tones of underbrush, wild mint, leather and granite in this full-bodied but vibrantly balanced red with a mineral edge.  The finish is marked by firm, structured tannins.

Pairing:  Herb-rich dishes, red meat, hearty stews

“A very dark and flowing style this year with large amount of tannins, really shot through with thick, very ripe tannins. Hard to judge – it’s thick, but not drying, very fruity, and very dark in fruit. Likely to be a long-lived Poète.”
92 points, Matt Walls, Decanter
